Stop trying to get buy-in!

Yes, you heard me.

Iโ€™ve been using the term ๐˜ฃ๐˜ถ๐˜บ-๐˜ช๐˜ฏ for ages when I talk about your efforts to influence others in your organization to come on board with this whole Quality thing.

And then I was talking to another coach (who works with an entirely different group of professionals) who used the term ๐˜‰๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ฏ.

Whoaโ€ฆmajor light bulb moment for me. And honestly, I felt kind of dumb for a second, because now that Iโ€™ve heard it, itโ€™s sooooo obvious and Iโ€™m so irritated that I didnโ€™t think of using it in the first place.

So, yeah, lโ€™ve changed my tune. And now Iโ€™m going to go on and on about getting โ€œ๐˜‰๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ฏโ€. Because thatโ€™s really what we need to do.

So then, how do we get ๐˜‰๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ฏ?

Well, first we have to be pretty good at painting a picture of what weโ€™re trying to get people to believe in. ๐—ช๐—ฒ ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ฐ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜†.

Of purpose. Of our shared vision. Of what exactly weโ€™re all about as a business. What do we do? And why? How does Quality factor in to all of this? How does Quality factor in to everyone’s role?

And, of course, ๐˜„๐—ฒ ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜.

If you donโ€™t trust someone, do you believe in what theyโ€™re peddling? Right? Right!

Clarity and trust.

Youโ€™ve heard that before. Because Iโ€™ve said that before. Ad nauseam.

And youโ€™ve heard the next part too: You need good communication skills if youโ€™re going to have clarity and trust. Itโ€™s a bit of a loop though because clarity and trust also lead to good communication.

๐—ฆ๐—ผโ€ฆ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐˜‰๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ฏ ๐˜„๐—ฒ ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ฐ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜†, ๐˜๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜, ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ด๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป.

And, therefore, if we donโ€™t have ๐˜‰๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ฏ (formerly known as Buy-In) it probably means one of these three is missing.
